France Unveils Exclusive International French Program for Indian Students

In a significant move to strengthen educational ties between France and India, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the launch of a special international programme aimed at Indian students. This initiative allows Indian high school graduates to immerse themselves in French culture and language for a year in France before pursuing their chosen degree[^1]. The programme is designed to open up France’s rich and diverse educational offerings to India’s brightest students, enabling them to access courses taught in French rather than being limited to English-taught programmes[^1].

During his visit to India, where he attended the Republic Day celebrations as the chief guest, President Macron emphasized France’s commitment to increasing the number of Indian students in France. He expressed his desire to welcome 30,000 Indian students by 2030, stating that achieving this goal would make him “the happiest President”[^1]. The programme is inclusive, welcoming all Indian students irrespective of their current level of French proficiency, with academic excellence being the sole prerequisite[^1].

The French Embassy in India has highlighted that the classes are tailored to the students’ field of study, complemented by preparatory courses. Additionally, outstanding students may be awarded scholarships by the Embassy of France in India to support their higher education in France[^1]. The application deadline for the programme was set for March 31, 2024[^1].

This educational initiative is seen as a pivotal step towards strengthening India-France relations. It aligns with the agreement between Prime Minister Modi and President Macron to support the setting up of international classes. These classes will enable Indian students to be taught French as a foreign language, along with methodology and academic content, at highly reputed French universities during one academic year before entering their chosen curricula in France[^1].
