Higher Education Institutions Unite for Groundbreaking European Peace Conference in Lithuania

Universities collaborate on European peace conference in Lithuania

LCC International University is set to host a significant European peace conference titled “Living with Fragile Identities” from February 29 to March 3, 2024[^1]. This event, taking place in Klaipėda, Lithuania, is a collaborative effort involving several academic institutions, including the Free University of Amsterdam, the University of Hamburg, and the Berlin Mennonite Peace Center[^1]. The conference will delve into topics such as peace theology, nonviolent communication, and trauma healing, which are particularly relevant to the challenges faced by contemporary European society regarding issues of identity[^1].

The lineup of speakers for the conference is impressive, featuring experts and practitioners from various backgrounds. Among them is Danisa Ndlovu, the former president of the Mennonite World Conference and a Brethren in Christ leader from Zimbabwe[^1]. Thobekile Ncube, who directs women’s ministry at the Theological College of Zimbabwe, and Duncan Morrow, a professor at Ulster University and member of the Corrymeela Community of Reconciliation, will also share their insights[^1]. These presenters, along with others who have worked with organizations like Mennonite Central Committee and Community Peacemaker Teams, will contribute to a rich dialogue aimed at fostering understanding and addressing the tensions related to identity in Europe[^1].

Organized by LCC’s Center for Dialogue and Conflict Transformation, the conference aims to provide a platform for discussions and workshops that can contribute to peace and reconciliation efforts within the context of fragile identities[^1]. It is an opportunity for scholars, activists, and community leaders to come together to explore and exchange ideas on how to navigate the complexities of identity in a way that promotes peace and justice.
